The War of Art

Change is inevitable and in order to grow and progress, you have to step outside of your bubble of comfort and face down your fears. I've been going through this metamorphosis for nearly two years. Though the changes were not of my choice (we moved from Hawaii to the DC area), I realized that maybe it would be an opportunity to grow. Was the change painful? Yes, but it was necessary. I recently read Steven Pressfield's book, The War of Art.  In it, Mr. Pressfield talks about how the invisible force of Resistance undermines us.  It is constantly present to keep us from living up to our full potential.  It comes in many forms such as procrastination, self doubt, and fear.   And what struck me about this book was that I had no idea how pervasive Resistance is in our daily lives.  It can be in things as innocuous as starting up a home improvement project or doing laundry for that matter.  Believe it or not, it's also what keeps us from following through on our dreams and putting ourselves in the thick of action to become professionals instead of remaining on the sidelines watching life go by. It also made me think about how we put off making plans like getting family portraits done or scheduling a family vacation.  The bad thing about that is that we wait and wait hoping it will go away but in reality we are giving Resistance more power over us.  Putting things off yet another day...  We're smarter than that aren't we?  Life isn't forever and youth is but a fleeting moment.  How will you take charge and live life to your fullest potential?  Are you strong enough to kick Resistance to the curb?
